MyOatmeal.com Review!

Good evening (night?) my beautiful friends! 🙂

As my close family and friends may know by now, I am utterly in love obsessed with oatmeal. I will have it for at least one meal a day, and sometimes twice. I’m a crazy oatmeal obsessed woman, and I am darn proud of it.

Without further ado, I am so excited to share about MyOatmeal.com with you!

IMG_5183

First off, I just want to say how friendly & welcoming their staff is. I emailed them asking about information on their ambassador program, and quickly after emailing them I was given all the info I needed and felt like they genuinely were excited to have me represent them. They also take such CARE into these products. Their staff creates each custom mix by hand with love and attention to detail.

So what/who is MyOatmeal?
IMAG0161Anthony & Kathy Collova are the founders of this company, and actually created the company based on a dream Anthony had of himself packaging healthy oatmeal! Anyone who dreams about oatmeal is a friend of mine 😉 MyOatmeal’s mission is so genuine: “We want to help, inspire and empower our community. We will do this by leading by the same we wish to others to lead by. We will set this example first to our employees so that our customers experience first hand more than customer service, but rather, togetherness of spirit, word and intention.” BAM. Now THAT is a mission statement I like!

MyOatmeal.com offers both custom oatmeal mixes & PB Lean, which is powdered peanut butter. The total combinations of oatmeal mixes you can make is a whopping 22 billion! They offer different kinds of oatmeal bases, delicious flavorings, dried fruits, nuts, seeds, protein powder, sweetener, and more. They provide a nutritional breakdown on the sidebar so you can customize it however you want. You can even get creative and name your special bag of oatmeal or PB Lean!
They only use non-GMO products, and all their yummy flavorings are 100% natural, non-GMO, vegan & gluten free. They also have vegan protein powder options & gluten free oats.
Basically MyOatmeal.com can satisfy any oatmeal craving!

I ordered a 1 lb. custom oatmeal blend with their Smash Oats blend as a base, and I added carrot cake & cake batter flavoring, dried dates & golden raisins, chia seeds, and sweetened the deal with calorie-free monk fruit. Naturally I named it “Heck Yea Carrot Cake Batter”, because why not? 😀

IMG_5402IMG_5403IMG_5401

The verdict: HOLY OATMEAL BATMAN! This stuff is absolutely delicioso! To be honest, as soon as I received my package I was so eager to try it that I ate a spoonful of it raw. It was even amazing raw! It is so fresh and the aroma of the flavors and the dried fruit filled my nose as I opened the bag.

IMG_5409

The PB Lean was delicious as well! I ordered Vanilla Frosting PB Lean, ya know, frosting for the carrot cake? 😉 It is very flavorful and mixes so smoothly into oatmeal, yogurt, milk, etc., no clumps at all like some brands. What I like about PB Lean is that you get the great taste of peanut butter for much less calories! Very friendly for IIFYMers!

IMG_5404IMG_5405

Both products had great nutritional values. The sugar on the oatmeal was a little higher, but that’s because I used dried fruit, so all of the sugar was natural.

Mixed my PB Lean into some greek yogurt!

Overall I am very satisfied with my order and so impressed at MyOatmeal.com, and will be ordering again very soon. You should definitely get your hands on some of this gold, you will not be sorry you did!

I will be receiving a coupon code soon for my family, friends, and followers to receive a discount, so stick around 🙂

Here is a big thank you to Anthony, Kathy, and everyone at MyOatmeal!

{My Oatmeal provided me with a free sample to try and review, but this did not influence my opinion of their product. I am not being financially compensated for these views, and my opinion is 100% my own.}

Rest.

Hello beautiful people!

I am currently blogging from my living room whilst sipping on some festive cinnamon spice herbal tea and nursing a virus! I think I caught the bug from one of the twins I nanny, it has been progressing over the past few days. No, it’s a not the best time to get sick (with Christmas and all..), but I am ALIVE and well and I know my Father will heal me in due time!

Until then, I am letting myself be lazy for once! I’ll be honest, I am that type of person who constantly has to be doing something productive or I feel like a bum. I used to see relaxing as a waste of time. Well when college became my main focus a few years ago I realized I was running myself into a hole of pure exhaustion. God has placed it on my heart to really focus on regular REST. Physical, spiritual, mental rest.

Being the type A person I am, I constantly have to remind myself to take a bit of each of my day to rest in God’s Presence before tackling my list of the day’s to-dos. Even then, I still sometimes neglect my body’s cries for rest. I constantly pour out, but many times don’t let myself be filled up again. This leaves me feeling dry and absolutely tired.

Sometimes I go about my days pushing my body to the limit all the waking hours, with working, intense workouts, house chores, and my social life. But I’m getting better everyday listening to my body! It’s all a learning process, eh?

7453fb5de216c887510440be824d46b3Want to know what my number one worry used to be when I would get sick?

Not being able to exercise. AKA burn calories.

Yep. That used to be me. Once upon a time I used to be obsessed with exercise simply to burn calories so I could be…here it comes…SKINNY.

I can barely even bring myself to type that out, much less admit to someone I used to have that problem. But I like to be real, both face-to-face and on my blog.

Here was my thought process:
Dangit, this sucks, I can’t workout. Oh no, I’m going to get fat. I’m going to lose all my “gainz”. Soooo I probably shouldn’t eat much, right? Sure, makes sense. Oh, and I probably shouldn’t eat many carbs since I won’t be active. And I should eat 100% clean.

*enter dramatic, disappointed sigh* :/ That was me. On those dreadful days where I had to be still, I would try to eat as little as possible. Ridiculous, right? I mean, my body needed all the energy it could get to fight off an illness! The devil placed these thoughts into my sensitive mind. Thankfully my sweet Lord has saved my from this horrible prison of thought, and continues to save me from every trial & situation. He has saved me these past couple of days and is teaching me to treat my body with love and gentleness.

Not that I like being sick at all–actually I loathe it–but honestly, it helps forces me to slow down and rely on my Daddy God to carry me and to take care of me. It helps me to re-align my priorities so whenever I am back to health, I have a clear picture of what my priories should be and remember the importance of REST.

If you take anything from this post my friends, it is to slow down & rest a little bit each day, if even just a 5 minute coffee break in the morning while reading a short devotion or in prayer. Focus of quality, not quantity. Every so often, when possible, treat yourself to a day/part of the day off, girls’ night, spa time at home, a latte at a coffeeshop, a walk outside in nature, curl up with a good book, or whatever helps you recollect your mind & rest! Also, PRAY to our Lord to grant you peace, happiness, and to give your body & soul rest so that you may pour out His love in His name & live out His plan for your life. Only God can truly sustain us!

What do YOU do to rest; physically, spiritually, emotionally, mentally?

Sow Your Seed

Let’s start off this post with some sugar-free, to-the-point, realness. Lately, I’ve been in a desert of sorts. No, not literally, but spiritually. I am spiritually…dry. A dryness that that occurred to me that ONLY God can relieve. I know what you’re thinking, “Duh, Dolce! Obviously only God can satisfy you spiritually!”. Though it is a simple fact, I think we all lose sight of this beautiful truth sometimes. It’s time I call upon God’s Almighty Power and Love to save me from this slippery slope, and to give my strength and wisdom to learn from this season. It’s all a process!

d31c54e426a68573ab8937eb863eeb74

So here is my goal for this Christmas season (and for the rest of my life!):

  • At least 30 minutes a day in The Word–distraction free (buh-bye iPhone checks mid-devo)
  • Pray. Every. Single. Day. Multiple times a day. Whole-heartedly.
  • Surrender my day to God EVERY morning
  • and last but not least, spread The Word every chance I get!

I’ll be honest, I just typed that and thought “Oh dang, everyday? YES. Every day!” It really helps to write out goals, and I recommend it to everyone whether it be work goals, school goals, personal life goals, whatever! It really helps to write it out by hand as well, the letters soak in deeper as you manually write them.

Now onto a parable that God has placed on my heart today. For about the past week I have been reading through the book of Mark. Side note: I have never actually read through this book until now, and man I was missing out!!

The Parable of the Sower: Mark 4: 1-20

1 Again Jesus began to teach by the lake. The crowd that gathered around him was so large that he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all the people were along the shore at the water’s edge. 2 He taught them many things by parables, and in his teaching said: 3 “Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, some multiplying thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times.”

9 Then Jesus said, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”

10 When he was alone, the Twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables. 11 He told them, “The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you. But to those on the outside everything is said in parables 12 so that,

“‘they may be ever seeing but never perceiving,
and ever hearing but never understanding;
otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!’”

13 Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable? 14 The farmer sows the word. 15 Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them. 16 Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. 17 But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. 18 Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; 19 but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. 20 Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown.”

I think something cool that I thought about here was the fact that there are SO MANY people thirsting so deeply for The Word that they are following Jesus where ever He may go just to hopefully catch a couple Holy words from His mouth. Jesus Christ had to stand in a little boat just to separate Himself from the crowd so He could project His voice for all to hear! Are you this passionate about furthering your faith? Are you constantly chasing after Jesus to learn how to be more and more like Him? And–here’s a biggie–are you LISTENING when He speaks to you? Just some questions to ponder about in your heart. [Take a little time to think about & write down your answers if you want to]

The 4 types of soils Jesus teaches about:

  1. Seed sown on the surface of the soil (shallow soil)
These seeds have fallen onto the surface of the soil path, not carefully burrowed under ground. This soil is shallow & nothing is  holding the seeds in place to safety flourish into a plant & bear fruit. In this kind of “soil” Satan can easily attack & snatches away “seeds”. This represents a very shallow faith, in which you are not latching to God’s Love, but rather weak and vulnerable of Satan’s attacks.
  2. Seed sown on rocky places
The seeds have been planted in very infertile soil, soil containing many rocks and things which can smother the plant and inhibit it from reaching it’s potential. A real life example of this situation is receiving God’s Word and heading in the right direction, but failing to FEED your faith (i’ll go into that in the 4th soil type), and not having a solid foundation in Jesus. The “seed” will quickly die out.
  3. Seed sown among the thorns (ouch!)
We all have “thorns” in life–worries, anxiety, depression, sickness, heartbreak, addictions, family troubles, body-image issues, etc etc etc. Everyone has thorns; the problem comes up when you let you faith be choked up by these trails. A literal image of the thorns is planting a seed next to a big plant with thorns that competes with it for sunlight and water–the essentials of life. The “seed” will then become unfruitful & wither away. Don’t let the thorns win!
  4. Seed sown on good, fertile soil
In the last verse of this passage, Jesus illustrates the seed growing in fertile soil. In this soil you “hear The Word, accept it, and produce crop“.This seed of faith is growing on a good foundation of Jesus Christ and His relentless love for us sinners. In this “soil” you constantly feed & nourish your “seed” with rich sunlight & thirst-quenching water to help it grow & produce fruit. Feed your seed of faith constantly with constant prayer & praise, spending time in the Bible, rest in His Presence, attending church & bible study, and surrounding yourself with believers who can hold you accountable, learn alongside you, and just do life with you! Spreading The Truth every chance you get is a way to be a planter yourself and plant “seeds” into those who haven’t heard the Good News of His love.God will bless you beyond what your mind can even imagine. Let Him equip you with wisdom, love, patience, boldness, and many of the other gifts He loves to shower upon His children, so that you may bear fruit.

Currently 3.5.2014 + God’s Gift of Community

Currently…

…wearing my daddy’s wool socks and cable knit sweater. I’ll admit it, I am a daddy’s girl. But really y’all, men’s clothing is almost always more comfortable than women’s. It always has more “breathing room” (and yes, my father wears an XL so that could account for the bagginess on my petite stature haha). Honestly I borrow my brother and father’s clothes like sweaters, socks, sweatpants, etc. more than I borrow my mom’s clothing…is that weird? If it is, deal with it. 😉Image…eating my mom’s white chicken chili. I truly believe there is something magical about my mom’s cooking. She cracks me up in that even if she uses a recipe, she typically deviates from it so much that the recipe becomes an insignificant jumble of ingredients and she makes it her own creation. Luckily for my family she cooks in big batches so we can have leftovers. Nothing like chili on a cold winter day! Goodness, am I going to miss my parents and their cooking when I move off to college 😦

Image

Chili + fuzzy socks = one happy Dolce

…speaking of chili, it is pretty darn CHILLY down here in Texas. Just to give non-Texans a perspective of our bi-polar weather, on Sunday, March 2nd it got up to 75 degrees. Fast forward to yesterday (Tuesday), March 4rd, us Texans woke up to a Texas winter wonderland, complete wind chills in the teens & basically everything except the ground was frozen (including my body). We get called “wimps” by other states, but I don’t care who you are, it was COLD!

Image

This picture does NOT do it justice, but all the trees are frozen. It was gorgeous!

…I am learning to love not wearing makeup. I used to be that girl who wouldn’t dare been seen without a heavy-handed coat of mascara on. Lately, I’ve come to realize the less I care about my appearance, the more I can see the almighty beauty of Our Creator, and am learning to appreciate the woman He has molded me into. With much prayer and meditation on His word, the burden of having to look the way society wants me to has been lifted off of my shoulders. The other day I forgot to bring my makeup with me to finish it in the car on the way to work…and I didn’t care. Not even a tiny bit.

Ladies, take a day or week where you “cleanse” yourself from cosmetics and meditate on God’s definition of beauty. Let it sink into you, and recognize the uniqueness God has etched into not only your physical appearance, but also your inner workings.

“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears The Lord is to be praised.” [Proverbs 31:30]

God’s Gift of Community:

Over the years I have struggled with my introvert personality, which Satan sometimes manifests into thinking I’m a “loner” and feeling sorry for myself. Who wants that?! I know I am not the only one who has dealt/is dealing with this in their life. One thing I have found in the past year or so that God has utilized to protect me from Satan’s evil interventions and further my relationship with The Lord is COMMUNITY. A couple years or so ago, I used to keep to myself to a few good friends here and there. I was reading my bible, but not pursuing The Lord like I should have been. I faced trials after trials, all sending me into a “funk” of sorts.

Fast forward to current time. I have immersed myself into a group of wonderful, godly friends who everyday help guide me on my faith walk. I have learned more in the last year or so about The Word and myself than I have in the whole 18 years before that. I have brothers and sisters in God who I know I can call for help when times get tough. —side note: I just started getting teary eyed, y’all— Some girls in particular (if reading, you know who you are 🙂 ), I can sincerely call my sisters. I cannot even fathom the measure at which God has blessed me to have crossed paths with this group of beautiful beings. They accept me for who I am–my quirks and all.

Bible study with the best!

“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!” Psalm 133:1

“I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.” 1 Corinthians 1:10

“Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art… It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things that give value to survival.” – C.S. Lewis

Keep Calm & Let it Go

[Don’t lie, you totally started singing the song from Disney’s Frozen! Although that movie makes the child in me jump for joy, that is not the subject matter of this post.]

19d5fcff0f52b0898981d251398af59a

In the past two years of my life, highly dominated by college, I can confidently say I have successfully–by the grace of God–become more mature mentally, socially, and spiritually. However, something else has latched onto the more grown-up Dolce–CONTROL ISSUES. As a self-proclaimed perfectionist, this seems only natural to want to have control of every little aspect of my life. But this is not what God wants for my life, your life, and anyone’s life.

God made us dependent creatures. Dependent on none else but who? GOD! God–the maker of the universe whom knows the every dusty nook and cranny of your messy life, yet loves you to unfathomable measures. He controls everything and knows the blueprint of our lives.
So then, why do we constantly wage a battle of tug-o-war with our all-powerful creator?

Ever notice how the more we take it upon ourselves to do things “our way”–not letting God have control–things inevitably end up MORE chaotic, leaving us physically and mentally exhausted *enter self-pity party*? Well my dear friend, that is the aftermath of attempting to control things only God can control.
Think of it this way: Imagine yourself, a human being, trying to make the all oceans of the Earth turn pink. You stand there at the edge of the ocean, use every fiber of your being, trying to harvest all your brain capacity to mentally turn the water pink. Silly, right? Well, that’s the same idea. Only God can do such a thing if He very well chose to. (Which would be cool, eh? 😉 )

“Let go of your concerns! Then you will know that I am God. I rule the nations. I rule the earth.” Psalm 46:10

Bottom line: HE is in control. We need only rest in His Presence, allowing Him take charge of this day and ALL days. Whether it be school, a relationship, your career, or whatever–sincerely give it all to God, let it go, and let Him take control. This reminds me of the song “Oceans” by Hillsong– “Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders. Let me walk upon Your waters, wherever You would call me”. Began everyday with a prayer first or repentance of attempting to take over His wheel, and secondly ask Him to lead you step-by-step through your life, showing you His path He has planned for you.

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.” Psalm 32:8

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me.” Luke 9:23

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

Thinking Out Loud #1

Howdy friends! Couldn’t wait to kick off my blog with a random collection of thoughts & musings, or a Thinking Out Loud post (thanks for hosting it, Amanda!). 🙂 So without further ado…

Thinking-Out-Loud

1. New years resolutions: Yea yea yea, no eye rolls please. I know resolutions are becoming so “uncool” lately, but hey, I still make them and do my best to see them through! (Unless it’s something like “give up sugar”, haha NO.) My first and most prioritized goal is to have quiet time immersed in my bible, soaking up His Word. To be honest, I have really been slacking the last few months with cracking open my bible, and have been feeling a bit “spiritually constipated” (ha, just think about it). My goal is to start my day off with a daily devoltional, bible reading, and prayer to begin my day. Everytime I do so, it really helps set the tone for the rest of my day!

2. Speaking of New Years, I had the most enjoyable New Years Eve I have had ever! My friends and I got together for a fun night of laughs, eats, and fellowship, complete with an awesome bonfire. I love these people to pieces, they are truly my sisters and brothers in Christ.

My friend decorated the cutest mason jars to hold our sparkling grape juice!

My friend decorated the cutest mason jars to hold our sparkling grape juice!

We had s’mores, which by the way are one of my favorite sweet treats. They remind me of my childhood girl scout camping trips. Speaking of s’mores, am I the only one who loves a super toasty (read: slighty burnt) marshmallow on their s’mores? My friends picked fun at me for setting my marshmallows on fire a good couple of times prior to eating them. I just like ’em toasty 😀

My favorite people around our NYE fiyyyaaa.

3. I am currently really interested in holistic natural remedies. It all started about a month ago when I came down with strep throat and a cold. Apparently strep+a cold=a flu like combo. Not fun :/ Anyways, the cold has stuck around for about a month and with my status of being fed up, I have been researching natural remedies for infections and overall health. I am currently drinking warm lemon water every morning to sooth my throat, get punch of Vitamin C first thing in the morning, and detox my organs. It actually makes me feel awesome, and I wake up CRAVING warm lemon water. I also am taking 1 tablespoon of unfiltered apple cider vinegar 2-3 times a day, which apparently is the “ultimate natural remedy” that Hippocrates used. I will keep y’all up to date with my progress back to health!

4. Confession: We still haven’t taken down our Christmas decorations. And I haven’t stopped playing Michael Buble Christmas music on Pandora. And have no intention of doing so. Shhhh 😉

5. Do you ever say a word over and over until it sounds really weird? No, really. For instance, say poodle a couple of times and reallyyy think about the word. Poodle. Poodle. Poodle. #whydoihavefriends

6. Here are a couple pinterest pins that caught my eye lately:

Amen.

This kale pesto looks delish! I am a lover of anything pesto, and although kale is not my favorite, this looks awesome.
